Everyone’s makeup journey is different. Playing around with eyeshadow colours and trying out different eyeliner techniques were how I kicked off mine. It was really about self-expression and having fun along the way. After going to makeup school, my perspective on makeup changed and everything in my head became more technical. Figuring out how to change or improve certain features were the end goals. Although it can be fun, I believe makeup also helps to enhance our facial features. There always comes a time in a woman’s life where it can get out of control and instead of enhancing what we already have, some end up looking like a totally different person. It’s true that at the end of the day it’s only makeup, and everybody has the choice to look the way they want.
I, like every women, have faced many challenges when it came to my looks. It still surprises me that there were times in my life where I masked myself in makeup just to look like the person I thought I needed to look like. And as the saying goes, ‘As I got a little bit older, I also I got a little bit wiser’. All those things I considered imperfections were and are still charming features that make me who I am. I’m nowhere near perfect but I don’t ever feel the need to completely cover up every acne scar, wear heavy eyeliner, chisel and sharpen out cheek bones with contour, or wear false lashes on a daily basis anymore. Instead, I’ve learned to love what I was born with and work around that.
Learning to enhance what you already have has never felt more empowering. I’ve really eased down on always trying to cover things up. Now I focus on making my features stand out without being overpowered by so many products. Charlotte Tilbury recently came out with four Quick ‘N’ Easy Makeup kits that can easily create polished looks in minutes. Each kit achieves different looks: Daytime Chic Look, Natural Glowing Look, Smokey Eye Evening Look, and Red Carpet Party Look. I’ve found that these perfectly highlight your features in the most natural way possible – less is more really does apply here. I’ve incorporated these Charlotte Tilbury products with my other favourites, and I now feel like I have found all the right makeup products that help let my features shine through in the most flattering way possible.
Personal tips and tricks:
1. Find a foundation that’s light to medium coverage for a “my skin but better” look.
2. An eyelash primer is your mascaras best friend.
3. If you also have oily skin, don’t fear cream finishes, but do go easier on them.
4. On lazy days, curl your lashes and fill in your brows.
