While New Years is when most people reflect on their life so far, I find myself doing that on my birthday. This one in particular is a special one since this year is a milestone of leaving my twenties behind and entering into my thirties. Even writing down the word thirties is weird enough as it is. When we’re in our teens and twenties we fear the thirties – I know I did. But as I’m here now today at 30 years old, I feel and like to think I don’t look any different from even 5 years ago.
Since my birthday falls on a Monday this year, I wanted to celebrate with good company on the beach this past weekend. I think a lot of people can agree when I say the beach is the perfect way to relax while soaking up some vitamin D. Although we don’t really do anything on a beach, we’re always able to find a sense of happiness and freedom from the sounds of ocean waves and the feeling of sand between our toes. I love the atmosphere of a beach, and I feel the most at home when I’m near one. Hey, perhaps deep down we’re all mermaids!
I was at the beach for only a few hours so I packed light, and I mean LIGHT. As you probably noticed by now, I’m an advocate when it comes to sunscreen. My current favourite sun protection is the Cyberderm Simply Zinc Sun Whip SPF 30, which is a certified organic zinc oxide based sunscreen. Not only is the bottle in a chic convenient size, but you forget you’re putting on any sunscreen because it isn’t your generic chemicalized sunscreen. Instead it’s like putting on a hydrating moisturizer that has a very light fragrance that fades out. It gets major bonus points especially since it has been non-irritating on my sensitive acne-prone skin.
Another beach must-have is a good hand lotion such as the EOS Hand Lotion in Fresh Flowers, which has no animal byproducts, hydrates and absorbs quickly into the skin, and smells just as it’s name claims but even better. Other must-haves are a pair of sunglasses (I did go to the beach in the evening so they weren’t that needed – good to have on hand regardless!), a beach volleyball for when you start to get too lazy and need to move around more, and of course a beach towel.
What are your beach essentials?
