First steps in beauty

Throughout history, the definition of beauty has evolved dramatically. The European Renaissance considered pale skin and fuller bodies a sign of beauty – while the 21st century beauty standard prefers slim women with a slight tan. In truth, beauty is a subjective matter. As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So what can women do to feel truly beautiful?

1. Healthy skin
Your skin is one of the first things that people notice about you. It deserves the best care as it’s the largest and only organ on our bodies that actively protects us from external attacks. Consequently, it’s important to take good care of your skin regardless of your age. You don’t need to wait until you get older to start a healthy skin regimen – skin is important at any age! There are simple gestures that can help your skin every day, such as washing and cleansing it. Everyday pollution and dust form a coat on your skin that only washing can remove. You also need to protect your skin from too much exposure from the sun by wearing a sunscreen daily. Most importantly, have regular checkups with a skin specialist or dermatologist every now and then.

2. Makeup: Less is more
For a lot of women, makeup is a daily routine. However, while you can put on makeup every day, it’s important to remember that less makeup will help you to create some accents to highlight your natural beauty. You can read more about my thoughts on this subject in my previous blog post, but to break it down – use makeup as a way to enhance your beauty, not to hide it.

3. Eat yourself beautiful
Healthy eating habits have a huge impact on how you feel and how you look. After all, beauty also comes from the inside. Therefore it’s important that your diet is focused around drinking plenty of water, having enough fibers and vitamins every day, and avoiding at all costs processed foods. A healthy diet is essential as your skin takes the minerals and vitamins it requires from what you eat, therefore cutting out the junk is always a good idea for a glowing complexion. You are what you eat, and your beauty depends on of how healthy your body is.

4. Embrace positivity
It’s important that modern women accept that they are all perfectly beautiful and unique in their own way. Don’t ever believe that you aren’t beautiful enough because of whatever the social beauty standards are. How you present yourself, who you are, and the way that you embrace your own differences is what makes your own beauty. So remember to be happy about yourself and to cultivate a positive mindset. You are full of beauty, and it’s time that you recognize it!

These are so good to know. Saying less is more is so true; I just learned that primer is one of the MOST clogging things you can put on your face. Who knew? Thanks for all this new knowledge!

I usually only use primer on special occasions where I need my makeup to stay on all day, but either than that we don’t need it daily for sure!

  4. I love this post and you’re absolutely right, a positive mindset is essential and I would say more important than any beauty product. We are all beautiful in our own way and it’s time to embrace that. A healthy diet also makes a huge difference. xx
