Contrary to what you may have heard, not everyone enjoys the cold winter weather or snow (*points finger at self*). It’s definitely a hard time to get by, but of course with cons there are always some pros. Here are a few tips to help the chilly months appear not so bad after all.
Buy a coat you will feel confident wearing
When winter comes to mind we may picture in our heads something frumpy and unfashionable – but times have changed. Winter temperatures are different all around the world so depending on where you are or how much cold you can handle, be sure to pick out the right coat that best suits your needs. If you’re wanting to go the more fashionable route, a wool coat (unstructured has been the recent trend) is your best bet. If you’re more concerned about being warm and fully protected, then you may want something with down feather.
Cute accessories is where it’s at
My favourite part about winter are breaking out the scarves and hats (you can never have too many!). If you don’t happen to have the greatest looking coat; accessorizing can do wonders to your overall appearance. It’s simply a fun way to play around with your look.
Own a pair of fuzzy animal slippers
Coming home to some warm fuzzy friends on your feet after being out in the cold can make the day even better! Who knew you can get so much joy from looking down at two little animals side-by-side. This is definitely a must for home in the winter.
Find small activities to do
If you’re not the snowboarding or skiing type, there are other ways to enjoy the outdoors. Snowshoeing and tobogganing can be fun activities to try out if you want to keep it light. And for those who just aren’t winter outdoorsy; keeping fit at home or at a gym is another great alternative. Here are three of my favourite at home workouts for when I’m feeling active:
Tea, tea, and more tea
It’s not hard becoming a teacholic at this time of year. Besides the taste and keeping you warm, tea also has many health benefits to go along with it, and often helps with digestion after a meal. Nothing says winter like a cup of green or earl grey tea!
Sip on fancy lattes
If you’re looking for more flavor in your life, lattes are a wonderful treat to have every now and then. This time of year is probably the only time I constantly pop into a Starbucks (using gift cards I may have received as a Christmas gift…just keeping it real here) for my favourite tazo chai latte [with soy milk!] or weak to the knees PSL (pumpkin spice latte). Nommy!
Gather up a movie playlist
I love catching up on my film favourites or trying out movie rentals on iTunes. There’s nothing better in the winter time than snuggling up near a fireplace wrapped around a blanket with your hot drink watching a comedy…or whatever genre you’re feeling that night!
Catch up on your z’s
I think it’s safe to say we can all agree that sleep in the wintertime is the best. Unlike in the summer, we can get cozy under the blankets and really cocoon ourselves in (this might be a term I just made up). This is the perfect time to catch up on the sleep you’ve been missing out on. You’ll be ready in no time to enjoy the outdoors again when the springtime arrives!
What do you like to do to keep busy in the winter? By the way, Happy New Year and keep warm chicas!!
