Happy February, everyone! Recently I’ve really stepped it up in the beauty department. If you’ve followed along with my blog for quite awhile now, you’d know that I went through multiple makeup purges. Don’t get me wrong – I still have tendencies to impulsively buy new makeup – but instead now I always buy within my needs and only select products I know I’ll actually get wear out of. I ran out of some favourites, however this time around I decided to give new ones a go.
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation
When it comes to high-end makeup products, I like to get my money’s worth. It’s rare you’d see me jumping from one foundation to another. For the last 4 years, Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Super-Charged Oil-Free Foundation was the only foundation I believed worked for my skin. I loved it to bits, but had finally felt like I outgrew it and was ready to try something new. Originally going into Sephora, I had nothing in mind that I was curious to try out. I solely let the woman who colour matched me decide based on my skin type and budget. I’ve already heard many raves about this foundation so I went ahead with it. If you have tried out the Marc Jacobs foundation you’d know that it’s a very lightweight coverage. So when I made the jump to MUFE’s Ultra HD foundation (in shade Y315) it really did change things up with more coverage, yet in the most natural way possible. It doesn’t fully mask acne scars, but personally doesn’t bother me since it still makes my skin look much more even.
Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner
This liquid eyeliner isn’t exactly new to me, but it’s been years since I used this one from Eyeko. For the last few years I preferred the more natural look of a gel and pencil eyeliner. I thought I’d stir things up for the occasional days when I feel like going a bit more bold with my eyeliner. This was originally not my favourite choice when it came to liquid liners, but I thought I would take advantage of a sale Eyeko was having during the Christmas season. I don’t know if the formula changed since I first owned it many years ago, but I found this one to work much better than what I remembered. It has a lot better staying power and this time around it’s definitely waterproof.
NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade
As you may or may not know, the NYX Brow Gel has been a long time favourite of mine. It has always lived up to the claims of being extremely sweat and waterproof. However, the one thing that irks me at times is the tube packaging. Yes – it helps with sanitation, but the product can tend to dry up (depending on the season as well) in the tube at times which makes it unpredictable with the amount of brow gel that gets squeezed out. I wasn’t sure if their Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade was the equivalent or alternative, but I was curious about it being in a pot instead. The first time using the pomade I didn’t expect the product to be so soft that I ended up jabbing a hole in it with my brush. Even so, I don’t consider that a flaw – just thought I would mention it needs to be handled it with care. After using this for a week, I can say it’s not as budge-proof as the Brow Gel but I still really like it anyways for when I don’t want to spend too much time doing my brows.
KATE Lash Maximizer by Kanebo
I’ve always read around that an eyelash primer can really step up the game. It took me awhile but I finally got my hands on one! Of course I had to pick up a Japanese brand since they’re always the masters at making short sad lashes look longer and more voluminous. Since this is my first time owning an eyelash primer I have nothing to compare it to, but I have to say I love the results. A few years ago I used to use RevitaLash; and with the KATE Lash Maximizer primer I pretty much get the same look that the lash treatment did. Along with the white base there are small fibers that look like actual hairs (kind of freaked me out at first) in the primer to help lift and give more volume. I’m pretty much happy that I can finally use mascaras that aren’t always waterproof!
Essence Makeup Matt Matt Matt Lipstick
Whenever I want a cheap but great quality beauty thrill, I can always rely on Essence for that. Their Matt Matt Matt Lipsticks have been doing a bit of a circulation around on my Instagram so I needed to go experience it for myself. There are 8 shades to choose from but I had my eyes set on shade ’02 Perfect Match’ from the beginning. I must say I’ve been on a winning streak recently when finding all the My-Lips-But-Better shades. What’s cool is that this lipstick pretty much nails 2 colours in one. When applied with one or two layers it’s a soft pinky brown nude, and with a third layer or more it’s a much more opaque mauve tone.
If you’ve tried any of these products, let me know your thoughts!
