There’s a good chance that many of you can relate to not always embracing your natural hair texture. We see everything that’s wrong with it so we often try our best to style and change it into something totally opposite. In my case, my hair just doesn’t seem to want to make up it’s mind. It’s a mixture of crimps, waves, and has the random few straight strands here and there – on top of that – frizz and dryness are no stranger to my lion’s mane.
As long as I could remember I’ve put my hair through the maximum torture one could ever think of. It’s been through many colours, bleaches, hair extensions, braid in extensions, and other harsh chemicals – along with that, it’s taken in a lot of heat from blowdryers and hair straighteners on the daily. But for the last year or so I’ve decided it was time to take care of my hair again by:
1) Washing it every other day.
2) Use styling tools only every other day as well.
3) If I’m going to colour my hair – no bleach.
4) Use natural and vegan hair products.
5) Air-dry when possible and…embrace my natural texture more often.
It may not seem like a big deal for some people, but for those who have spent years doing everything in their power to change the way their hair naturally falls it can be a big step. At least three times a week, I’ve been rocking my confused/unmanageable hair and along the way I’ve been learning to love and appreciate what I was born with. You may not think much of it but someone out there is wishing they had your hair. After all, we always want what we can’t have right?
How do you style your hair and are you happy with your natural texture?
