Summer teases

There’s a good chance that many of you can relate to not always embracing your natural hair texture. We see everything that’s wrong with it so we often try our best to style and change it into something totally opposite. In my case, my hair just doesn’t seem to want to make up it’s mind. It’s a mixture of crimps, waves, and has the random few straight strands here and there – on top of that – frizz and dryness are no stranger to my lion’s mane.

As long as I could remember I’ve put my hair through the maximum torture one could ever think of. It’s been through many colours, bleaches, hair extensions, braid in extensions, and other harsh chemicals – along with that, it’s taken in a lot of heat from blowdryers and hair straighteners on the daily. But for the last year or so I’ve decided it was time to take care of my hair again by:

1) Washing it every other day.
2) Use styling tools only every other day as well.
3) If I’m going to colour my hair – no bleach.
4) Use natural and vegan hair products.
5) Air-dry when possible and…embrace my natural texture more often.

It may not seem like a big deal for some people, but for those who have spent years doing everything in their power to change the way their hair naturally falls it can be a big step. At least three times a week, I’ve been rocking my confused/unmanageable hair and along the way I’ve been learning to love and appreciate what I was born with. You may not think much of it but someone out there is wishing they had your hair. After all, we always want what we can’t have right?

How do you style your hair and are you happy with your natural texture?

  1. Love this post! My natural hair consists of about 3 different textures which can be a headache when styling. I have limited myself to about 5 staple products, coconut oil being my favorite. Instead of washing with shampoo all the time, I wash with just conditioner so I am not stripping the nutrients out with every wash. I make sure it remains moisturized because dry hair and I are a hot mess together. Lastly, I have learned over time to just embrace it. It was the hair I was born with so I just accept it for what it is.

Hahha I feel you girl. I workout everyday so I feel icky if I don’t get my hair rinsed off and between days I use just conditioner as well. My hair feels so much more soft now.

So true! We all want what we can’t have or what we at least don’t have naturally. Girls with straight hair want curls and those with curls want bone straight hair. I think as we get older it gets a bit easier to just love what we already have.

Yessss, when I was younger I was made fun of for having curly hair so once I discovered a hair straightener I went ham on my hair everyday. Now I just love and accept the hair I have! Could be worse :p

  3. You have such gorgeous long hair. I also like your lip color in the featured pic!! I noticed that air drying my hair and not using heat really helps it to retain a healthy shine. 🙂

Thanks Shannon! I was wearing NYX matte lip creme in Morocco I believe 🙂
And I agree on more shine when you air dry your hair. I think hair just looks and feels better!

I agree – the things we dislike about our own hair are often what others admire, haha! 🙂 I’m styling my hair less now too – although that’s more because I don’t have time in the mornings! 😉

Air drying ain’t that bad! It does take a while until the hair is fully dried though. Sometimes my hair is still wet even halfway though the day :/

i wish i could air dry my hair but i can’t. my hair ends up becoming super flat = very ugly look. i have thin hair which is the big reason why it gets so flat without styling. i wish i had thicker hair and could just air dry cause that would be ideal x

Ah my sister also has this issue but I think you must have pretty healthy hair then! Mine is sooo dry that nothing is holding it back from flying all over the place lol

  7. Really liked the pictures! I have to say, I’ve always liked my hair, the texture is really not easy but I try not to ‘try to hard.’ I discovered that that basicly gives the best look in the end, funny enough 😉 x

Were same. I actually wash my hair every other day because if you wash it everyday the natural oil on your hair will be lessen.

    Thanks for your tips babe!
