With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to introduce new products into your routine. A full face of makeup really isn’t ideal in heat waves and humidity so I like to stick with makeup that is light yet durable, and has the purpose of protecting the skin from the sun. Realistically we’re going to be in the sun a lot more so we might as well be smart about it too! I recently went a little bit cray with beauty shopping so this is only part one.
I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, but sun protection is a must, and not just in the summertime. Okay I’ll be one to admit that there’s been plenty of times where I didn’t wear any sun protection during the winter or on cloudy spring and fall days — mostly because sunscreens or anything with SPF usually feels heavier on the skin, and worst of all makes my already oily skin even more oily or look more greasy.
I’ve been playing around with 2 products recently. One day I was shopping around Amazon and the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ had such high ratings and wonderful reviews that I had to give it a go as well. I’m just going to come right out and say that I’m in love and I can never go back to other brands when it comes to this perfectly formulated essence sunscreen! This doesn’t feel like any traditional sunscreen at all. It’s extremely lightweight, quick to absorb into the skin, and very refreshing to put on — this in my my opinion is completely flawless. Oh, and the affordable price is shocking for how amazing this sunscreen is!
It’s been years since I’ve used a Korean BB cream, and since Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++ comes in a better range of colours than other Korean brands I thought why not give them a try? I picked up the colour NO.27 Honey Beige, which is just a tad too dark for me, however, it has started to work out with my summer skin slowly developing and all. If any of you have tried out the Smashbox BB Cream SPF 35 you’d know how light coverage and lightweight it is; Missha’s is the complete opposite when used incorrectly. It took me awhile to adjust and to get the application just right. I’ve learned that a little bit goes a very long way! To be honest I’m not sure how I feel about the fragrance though because although it’s a light scent, it does take a few hours until it fully disappears. For now I think it’s a lovely BB cream, but I’m not sure if I’d repurchase this based on that one scent factor.
The blogosphere has been flooded with tons of reviews on the new L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara, and with all good reason! I thought I was forever a Maybelline girl when it came to mascaras, but boy was I absolutely wrong! L’Oreal totally stole my heart away with this mascara. Since I’ve never tried out the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara I can’t compare it and say Lash Paradise is a dupe for it, but I will tell you that I’m pretty sure this is the first mascara I’ve encountered that will work out well on everyone. Whether you weren’t blessed with amazing lashes or were lucky to have an amazing set, this is going to looking beautiful on all eyes. I’m in the category of “unblessed lashes” and have to say Lash Paradise makes me look like I have many more lashes than I actually do — not only that, but it really does bring volume, amazingness, and length without any clump. I hate saying the words “holy grail” but this really is a HG mascara in my books!
Not to recently I’ve picked up 2 new brow products (I can’t get away from brow anything). I’ve been experimenting with more brow pencils again and went for the Revlon ColorStay Brow Pencil in Dark Brown. It was truly a sad day for me when I finished my favourite Arbonne Shape It Up Brow Pencil, but I really wanted to try out a new pencil and Revlon had the exact same colour I was looking for! It claims are to be waterproof and stays put for 24 hours. Although I haven’t gone to the extreme of trying it out in water or wearing it over an entire 24 hours, I can still say as someone with oily skin it stays put like nobody’s business.
This next purchase was definitely a “YouTube made me do it” kind of ordeal. Peel off makeup has been circulating for months online and I just had to get in on it, and that’s when I ordered the Etude House Tint My Brows Gel in #3 Gray Brown. People worry about the peel being painful or that their eyebrow hairs will be yanked out when removed, but I didn’t have any pain nor have any involuntary eyebrow hairs get taken out — keep in mind I’ve had my eyebrows mircobladed in the past so I believe my pain tolerance has gone up. I know I keep mentioning my oily skin, but it does play a big factor on how makeup or any products will stay on my face. On the first day of the peel, my eyebrows were too dark for my liking… I know it sounds weird coming from someone who loves big dark ass eyebrows. The second day when I washed my face, the colour was perfect and exactly the way I like them to be. Going into day 3 and beyond faded very quickly, which was really sad since it’s suppose to last up to at least a week. I believe this will only work best for those with normal to drier skin.
At the base of it all, lip balms are what we use to prep our lips before we apply lipsticks [or kiss boys] so choosing the right one is crucial. Although I absolutely love my Crazy Rumors Lip Balms I decided to branch out for a bit. I’ve known about the Rebels Refinery Capital Vices Skull Lip Balm for years and have even gifted them a few times, but I’ve never actually bought one and tried it out for myself until now. The packaging alone is already to die for and I’m pretty sure you won’t find anything like this anywhere else. The embossed Hamlet quote at the bottom of the skull really caught my eye as well – “Be all my sins remember’d“. Aside from the perfect packaging, the balm itself is absolutely amazing. They come in 3 flavours (mint, vanilla, passion fruit) but I decided to pick up the mint since I love the tingly and cooling sensations of it on my lips. They all include high quality coconut and sweet almond oils and Vitamin E as well.
Awhile ago I received some samples of the Flickable Lip Gloss Pops in: Fight For Your White To Party (Sugar Cookie) & Citrus How We Do It (Tangerine). These cruelty-free and vegan lip gloss claim to help with moisture & softness, volume & colour, sparkle & shine, while being super smooth, non-sticky with a scent & flavour. First off, their packaging is very adorable and really can be mistaken for actual lollipops. The formula of these are pretty much the classic lipglosses we all know and love. If you’re looking for pigmentation you won’t find it here though, but if you want something with shine and volume then these are perfect. Because they’re very moisturizing and feel amazing on the lips, I like to wear these solely for that. Okay, I’m just going to be be honest here and say they don’t last long — wait for the reason though — only because I literally lick them dry off my lips since the flavour is so delicious (I can’t help it!!). Beware if you decide to purchase these for yourself, and try not to eat them like I do.
